To fly into Panama, you will need to provide a negative Covid PCR or antigen test that is not more than 48 hours old.
If you are flying in from South America, you will need to provide a Covid PCR test that is not more than 48 hours old plus you will be required to stay in a Covid hotel for quarantine for 3 days. At the end of the 3 days, you will be retested for Covid. If your test is negative, you will be released.
When you leave Panama, some countries require a negative Covid test to get on the flight to fly home.
Many airlines require that you present a negative Covid test to board the flight to Panama so you really need to get tested before you come to Panama. If your test has expired (more than 48 hours old), when you arrive in Panama, you can get retested at Tocumen International Airpot.
Panama’s Tocumen International Airport now offers Covid test for passengers coming into or leaving Panama. The cost is $50 and you get results in less than 1 hour so be sure to arrive three hours before your flight.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) announced this week that a negative Covid test will be required for international travelers to fly to the United States effective January 26th.
Air passengers are required to get a viral test (a test for current infection) within the 3 days before their flight to the U.S. departs, and provide written documentation of their laboratory test result (paper or electronic copy) to the airline or provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. Airlines must confirm the negative test result for all passengers or documentation of recovery before they board. If a passenger does not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery or chooses not to take a test, the airline must deny boarding to the passenger.
This also applies to travelers on private jets and chartered flights but excludes travelers which are only transiting and not entering the US.
When Should You Get Tested?
The CDC requires the test date to be no more than 3 days before the scheduled departure to fly to the United States.
Who Checks Test Results?
Travelers are required to provide their test results in a paper or digital copy to the airline they are traveling with.
What Kind of Test Is Acceptable to Fly to the United States?
Airlines are allowed to accept both COVID-19 PCR and rapid-antigen tests. Only a PCR test is acceptable to fly to Canada.
What If I Have Been Vaccinated?
Travelers that have been vaccinated are not exempt and will be required to provide negative COVID-19 test results.
Is a Quarantine Required When I Fly Home?
Quarantine is not required in Panama unless you test positive when you come into Tocumen International Airport or if you test positive before leaving Panama.
Currently, Canadians are required to self-quarantine for 14 days after international travel when they get back to Canada.
What are the current curfew and quarantine restrictions in Panama?
Starting April 19th, 2021, there is a country-wide curfew from 12 am to 4 am.
You are required to wear a mask anywhere in public.
Can You Get a Covid Test During a Panama Relocation Tour or a Private Tour?
