On every Panama Relocation Tour people ask me what I do NOT like about living in Panama. I had to think long and hard about it because I really do love living in Panama and can’t imagine moving back to the United States. I did come up with five Pet Peeves, or things I do not like about Panama. These are all things I’ve learned to live with or there is a work around. I’ll explain each of my five pet peeves in the next five blogs. These are not listed in any priority order.
Panama Pet Peeve #1 – Good Mexican Food
Coming from Texas, I had good Mexican food readily available in a variety of price ranges. Even fast food places like Chipotle or Taco Bueno were better than any Mexican food I have found in Panama.
I really miss good Mexican food …with a margarita on the rocks!
Mexican food in Panama is bland and without flavor. There’s nothing to tantalize your taste buds.
So, if I want good Mexican food, I have to make it myself. The ingredients are readily available, so that’s not a problem.
But, I sure do miss going out to a Mexican food restaurant, getting served a big bowl of hot tortilla chips and spicy homemade salsa, vegetarian enchiladas made with CORN tortillas and hot sopapillas served with honey for dessert. (makes me hungry just thinking about it)
If you’re thinking about opening up a restaurant when you move to Panama, please make it a Mexican Food! Even a taco stand would be great (made with corn tortillas of course). I’ll be a regular customer.
