In this video, Pat talks about living in Puerto Armuelles which is in the far western side of Panama. Pat has lived in Puerto Armuelles for 15 years. Puerto is a beach town that has been very economically depressed for 20 years because their major employer Chiquita Banana left. So some areas in Puerto are really run down but some areas are starting to make a come back.
The town of Puerto Armuelles has a population of about 25,000 and the entire district has a population of about 50,000. Puerto Armuelles has several grocery stores, hardware stores, a new hospital and other shops so you can get most of what you need in Puerto. There is even more shopping available at the Costa Rica border which is only 30 minutes away.
Beware that most of the property in Puerto is not titled which can create problems. When you move to Panama it’s a good idea to rent for at least a year before you even consider buying anything. This will give you time to make sure you like living in Panama and like the area you have selected. Check out our RENTALS page for information about rentals in the Puerto area.
