Patty Talks About Living in El Valle de Anton Panama

Patty moved from California to Panama. She has lived in several different areas in Panama while house sitting but decided to make El Valle de Anton her home. Watch the video to learn why she picked El Valle de Anton.

El Valle de Anton is about 2 hours west of Panama City. It’s at 1920 feet (588 meters) elevation so cooler than the coastal towns but warmer than other highland towns. El Valle has grocery stores and restaurants. But for most shopping or medical care, you will need to drive about 1 hour to Coronado or Penenome.

NOTE that it is VERY DIFFICULT to find a rental in El Valle de Anton.

El Valle is a town in central Panama. It’s in the crater of an extinct volcano, surrounded by mountains and cloud forests. To the north, Cerro Gaital National Park protects 3 hills: Cerro Gaital, Cerro Pajita and Cerro Caracoral. Its trails have ocean views and the park is home to hundreds of species of native birds, including the red-legged honeycreeper, the bay-headed tanager, and the blue-crowned motmot.

    Great video!

3 questions: 1) how is the internet service there? and 2) how difficult is it to access USA cable channels (ex, CNN, MSNBC, HBO, ESPN etc). 3) is it possible to function there without a vehicle?

Thanks and you did a nice job with that video.

      • Jackie Lange says

Like many things in Panama, the answer is… it depends. If you live close to downtown, then you can get higher internet speeds. But if you live away from town speeds are much slower. If you have an Amazon Firestick, you can get all the US shows. And if you live close to downtown, you can easily function without a vehicle.

We are using the services of one of your experts and paying a visit to El Valle in mid-June, approx 14-15 and hope to visit some expats, and look into business and home rentals – which I understand from Jackie are scarcer than hens teeth. Brent and Vickie from Maine

    • Jackie Lange says

a good rental at an affordable price is very hard to find in El Valle.

  6. Frances Helusky says

Jackie, I currently live in Boquete, but for health reasons need to explore Valle de Anton. do you have a bus tour that goes there? Any guidance would be appreciated.

    • Jackie Lange says

Hello Frances. We offer Private Tours in El Valle de Anton. But we do not have a bus that goes from Boquete to El Valle. When I was in El Valle de Anton in May 2023, there was no hospital and no doctors. You had to drive an hour+ on a terrible road to get to Coronado or San Carlos for medical care. You may want to pick an area that has a hospital if you have health reasons.

  7. Jody Karr says

    I enjoyed that a lot…thank you, Patty!
