Why Panama Is the Best Place to Retire in 2025

If you’ve been thinking about retiring abroad, 2025 could be the perfect year to make your move—and Panama should be at the top of your list. With its warm climate, modern infrastructure, world-class healthcare, and attractive retirement benefits, Panama continues to be one of the most desirable retirement destinations in the world.

Here’s why more retirees are choosing Panama than ever before—and why 2025 is the ideal time to make the leap.

Exceptional Value for Your Retirement Dollars

In Panama, your money goes further without sacrificing quality of life. Housing, utilities, healthcare, and groceries all cost significantly less than in the U.S., Canada, or Europe. Many single retirees comfortably live on $1,500–$2,500 per month, depending on their lifestyle and location.

Bonus Tip: Live just 10–15 minutes outside popular expat communities and you’ll save even more on rent, dining, and groceries—while still enjoying easy access to amenities.

Plus, once you get a visa, there is no requirement to live in Panama —so you can keep a flexible travel schedule. To maintain your visa, you are only required to come back to Panama for at least one day every two years.

Top-Quality, Affordable Healthcare

Panama’s healthcare system is modern, reliable, and incredibly affordable. You can choose from public or private hospitals, with many English-speaking doctors trained in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. In many cases, you’ll pay a fraction of what you would back home—without sacrificing quality.

Private health insurance plans are also very affordable, and many retirees pay under $150 a month for excellent health insurance coverage.

Even better: many private hospitals in Panama now accept Medicare Advantage for urgent care or emergency services, often with zero out-of-pocket expense. This means you can get world-class care without the financial stress—something that’s not possible in many other retirement destinations.

A Climate for Every Preference

Whether you love warm tropical beaches or cool mountain breezes, Panama has a climate that suits your lifestyle.

Beach communities offer sun and sea year-round.

Mountain towns like El Valle de Anton, Boquete, and VolcƔn provide a spring-like climate without the need for air conditioning or heating.

You can even enjoy city life in Panama City, where modern skyscrapers meet historic charm.

What an educational experience! John and Victoria were our tour guides, and despite dealing with several medical emergencies amongst our group, they kept things running smoothly and disseminated a WHOLE lot of information about moving to PanamĆ  as we traversed a good portion of the country. Comfortable bus, nice lodgings, and three meals a day of (mostly) delicious food. If you’re thinking about moving down to PanamĆ , I would HIGHLY recommend you take this tour.

My wife and I went on PRT tour number 275 in February and had a great, educational tour of Panama. The two guides were fantastic and we learned alot about the country and it’s various cities. We plan to retire and move there very soon! Highly recommend the tour!
