REPLAY – Move to Panama Q & A Call July 2020

Last Updated on July 29, 2020 - by Jackie Lange

REPLAY – Move to Panama Q & A Call July 2020

Since March, when Panama closed their borders because of the pandemic, Panama Relocation Tours has been hosting weekly conference calls.  Sometimes the calls are an interview with someone who lives in Panama and sometimes we do a Q & A conference call.  Both calls give you a glimpse of what life is like living in Panama.

The July 2020 Q & A conference call lasted an hour and a half so everyone had a chance to ask their question.   We covered many difference topics during the call so you’re sure to learn a lot.  Listen to the replay below.

The next conference call is Saturday, August 1st at 5pm Central.  I will interview a single lady who moved to Panama.  She started a business in Panama too!

UPDATE On PANDEMIC IN PANAMA

Panama’s borders are still closed.  Only humanitarian flights arranged by an Embassy can leave Panama or come in to Panama.

Most of Panama is only under a curfew from 7pm to 5am.  We are free to go anywhere in our province between 5am to 7pm.  Grocery stores, pharmacies, and hardware stores are open.  Restaurants are open for pick up or home delivery only (see Block 1 &2 below).   Travel between provinces is not allowed.

However, Panama City and Panama Oeste (the province just west of Panama City) are still under a strict quarantine because of the high number of new Covid cases in those areas.   These are both very high density areas.

Some areas in Panama, like the Azuero Peninsula, have had very few Covid cases so they have been permitted to open up Block 3 & 4 of their economy.  These are low density areas.

As you can see from the chart below, air transportation cannot start until all of Panama is in Block 4 at least.

REPLAY: How to Live Better for Less

REPLAY: How to Live Better for Less

The pandemic has caused millions of people to lose their jobs or businesses.  It’s also given people time to do some soul searching to decide what they want their life to be like when things get back to a new normal.  Some have decided they don’t want to go back to working 60-80 hours a week but unfortunately that’s what it takes to survive in some areas.

What if there was a way out?

Listen to the replay of this conference call with Billy and Akaisha Kaderli of Retire Early Lifestyle. They retired in 1991 when they were 38 years old.  They discovered that their job, home and cars were costing them a fortune.  The solution… move abroad!  By relocating abroad they could live a better lifestyle and significantly reduce their cost of living.  You can too!

7 Reasons to Move to Latin America

Chiriqui, Panamaby Billy and Akaisha Kaderli

While moving overseas isn’t the answer to fulfilling everyone’s retirement dream, more and more people are leaving their home countries to live elsewhere and for very good reasons. Below we have listed seven of these reasons.

Take a look. Perhaps a couple of them could solve a problem you are facing in molding your future retirement.

Affordable Cost of Living

bocas del toro panamaCompared to the United States and Canada, many of these Latin American countries offer a considerable drop in the Cost of Living. Daily life in countries such as Mexico, Panama, Guatemala and Belize will offer you big savings.

Overall, rent is within reach, cost of food – either fresh at the markets or even in dining establishments – are based on what locals can pay, and chances are, you are better off financially than most locals. Public transportation options are varied and much cheaper than what you would encounter up North of the Border. Utilities are less and pricing for domestic help like gardeners and maids is economical. Access to quality medical care, a large sector of retirement spending for some, is also cost effective.

All of these savings point to a better quality of life for less spending.

Large Expat communities already in place

In locations such as Chapala, (Mexico), Boquete, (Panama), or Antigua, (Guatemala), large Expat communities are thriving. If you are looking for people who speak English, various associations for volunteer opportunities, clubs for activities like bridge, gardening, hiking, tennis, golf, or even Zumba classes, you will find them.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, and there are many places to contribute, thereby utilizing your talents. It’s a great way to make new friends.

Access to Quality Medical care and Assisted Living options

Cost of medical care is a concern for many retirees. Even though American Medicare is not available to use outside the U.S., there are other options.

Mexico, for instance, offers their residents access to IMSS, which is their government health insurance program. There are also international insurance plans available from companies like Bupa, Globality Health and IHI. And the pricing for medical services outside the States is so affordable that it is completely reasonable to think one can pay out of pocket.

Even assisted living and long term care options are feasible.

Easy access to the States and Canada to visit family

cerro puntaSome retirees are concerned that they will lose touch with family and friends if they move overseas. But more and more flights are originating both in Central America and the US making travel between these countries a breeze. The location of Latin America allows for same day arrivals both coming and going and isn’t really a hardship to manage.

In between times, of course, there are VOIP services like Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp, and Magic Jack, not to mention the ease of email and Facebook.

There are a variety of climates, sizes of towns and cities to suit your preferences, and beaches and mountains from which to choose.

Latin America’s geography provides amazing variety. No matter if you are a beach person, prefer mountain scenery, or enjoy a large metropolitan city with museums, theater, and high end dining establishments, there is something for everyone in Latin America.

Oaxaca, Merida, Mexico City, all located in Mexico, and Antigua, Guatemala all offer city charm and amazing architecture.

panama rental boqueteThe funky towns of Panajachel, Guatemala or Boquete, Panama are both smaller and provide artistic divergence and small town charm.

The beach towns of Zihuatanejo, Puerto Escondido, Puerto Vallarta all located in Mexico, or Bocas de Toro, San Blas in Panama, or Ambergris Caye or Placencia in Belize allow for you to enjoy putting your toes in the sand, swimming, diving, snorkeling, sailing, fishing in the sea and sunsets over the ocean.

Most of Guatemala, and much of both Panama and Mexico offer vast vistas from mountain tops and a cooler climate.

Even if you choose one environment, domestic and private flights can take you to another one in a matter of hours for a get away.

Friendly people and culture

ellen with friends in panamaLatins are known for their easy ways, their manana attitude, and their love of family and friends. Seems there is always an occasion to celebrate and – at least in our experience – they don’t hesitate to invite you in. Fiestas, native rituals, and national holidays are colorful and many times LOUD. Just relax and enjoy it. And even if you only speak a bit of Spanish, that’s enough to open the doors to new and memorable experiences.

The Mayans are some of the most authentic humans we have ever encountered on this earth. They are ready with a smile, and willing to engage in jokes, conversation or to render help. Living with the Maya it’s easy to forget that there are crowded cities and other locations where people don’t look you in they eye and say hello to you on the street as a daily occurrence.

They have spoiled us.

International airports

richard detrich in hot tub on his patio in panamaInternational airports are dotted all over Latin America. If you want to take a trip to Europe, Asia or South America for instance, it’s easy to find a hub that will connect you to an international destination. If you choose to move to this area, you are not necessarily stranded far from society or world travel. You can still take that trip of a lifetime to a distant locale.

So as you can see, Latin America offers quite an attractive package to spice up your life. Many retirement bases are covered such as social activities, access to quality health care, cost of living savings, and quick and reasonable choices to visit family or take a trip somewhere if you are feeling stale.

Why not open yourself up to the many opportunities available, and test drive Latin America?

Retire in Panama Conference Call Replay

bocas del toro panama
Bocas del Toro province on the mainland

Panama Relocation Tours hosted a Q & A conference call on July 4th.  I honestly did not think many people would show up since it was Independence Day in the United States and I knew many would be celebrating with friends and family.  Much to our surprise, 346 people showed up for the live call!  So there were a lot of questions.  I stayed on the conference call until every single question had been answered so the call lasted two hours!

Several important announcements were made at the beginning of the call, including:

*  When the airport is scheduled to open in Panama
*  When we can start doing Panama Relocation Tours again
*  Safety protocols during a Panama Relocation Tour
*  What’s going on with the pandemic in Panama
*  We will bring back Private Tours (we did these from 2010 to 2012)
*  How to get on the back up list for a tour
*  Special offer… listen to replay to learn what it is (TIME SENSITIVE)
* …. and much more.

Click on the link below to listen to the replay.

Panama Relocation Tours has been hosting weekly conference call during the pandemic to keep you informed about what life is like living in Panama.

Between 2010 and 2012 we offered Private Tours. Once the borders open up in Panama, we will start offering Private Tours again in addition to our regular 6-day 7-night all-inclusive Panama Relocation Tours. We are doing Private Tours again for two reasons, (1) we know some people would rather not do a group tour because of Covid, (2) to try to accommodate all the people that we have on our back up list.  HOWEVER, we will NOT release details about the Private Tours or take reservations for them until we know for sure when the borders in Panama will open again. If you’re interested in a Private Tour, get on our back up list HERE and specify which month(s) you prefer.

Yes, since 2010 we’ve been offering Panama Relocation Tours! We have the experience you can trust, and need, when making a decision to relocate to Panama!
